I've never been much of a makeup guru. I always thought that "good" makeup had to come from expensive brands. So I dropped hundreds of dollars on products from Urban Decay and similar brands. But then, I discovered
Coastal Scents.
The first product I purchased from Coastal Scents is the
Ultra Shimmer 88 Eye Shadow Palette (above). It just arrived a few days ago, and I don't know how I lived without it. For just $19.95, this nicely packaged palette comes with 88 tins of shimmer eyeshadow, which is surprisingly pigmented and easy to remove without damaging your skin.
I was wary about purchasing makeup at such a cheap price, because in my experience, cheap price = cheap product. But this was totally not the case.
It's beautiful, affordable, and it took only three days to ship!
Have you tried any Coastal Scent products yet? Which are your favorites? Do you know of any other sources for quality makeup at low prices?

That website seems a little bit shady.... Does the color stay on longer though?
@TequilaKisses@xanga - i thought the same at first, but a few people i know actually recommended it. they've been ordering from the website for a while, and there has never been any security/charge issues. i couldn't find any negative feedback or concerns about the site at all.
the color lasts all day, too. so far it hasn't smudged once.
I had a friend who had that exact set. It's nice if you just want to wear a block of solid color on your eyes, but these things cannot blend. Also they aren't made very well so if you have sensitive skin they can irritate your eyes.

@TequilaKisses@xanga - I did a review on Coastal Scents when a friend got me the Matte Palette (It's the same colors as shimmer, only matte) for my birthday. It is AWESOME! The colors are very pigmented & go on smoothly. It's worth the price you pay for it trust me. Even if you think you wont use all the colors, you'll find uses for them, like color blending, costumes or if you're a make up artist, it'll come in very handy. I never used red eye shadow until I got it, now I wear it all the time, which scares my mom...GOOD! LOL

i have that! its really awesome. the pigments are great and the palette seems to last forever!! i got mine for over $30 though... how were you able to get it for $20??
i have that palette & i love it. sometimes hard to blend though, but using primer and a light layer of light/skin colored shadow helps blend it easier
I've bought brushes from Coastal Scents in the past and I wasn't impressed. I'm also slightly wary that their products are manufactured in China mostly b/c I don't know how good their quality control is. There have been quite a few issues with products being made in China fairly recently and I'd rather not risk putting potentially hazardous products on my face.
I don't have the CS set, but I have the 120 palette from Manly cosmetics. It's about $20 and can be found on eBay from a bunch of sellers. It's freakishly highly pigmented and the colors have lasted me 24 hours in a row before and were still vibrant.
I have this && the quality is really not that great. The color does not stay for long, and the eyeshadows are way too chalky for my liking. You basically get what you pay for I guess. I think it's more ideal for experimenting with new colors. That being said, the price is so cheap that it's there's not much to lose. It's fun to play around with & doesn't irritate my eyes.
I keep hearing about this pallet. Maybe it's about time I gift myself something for the holidays.

I absolutely LOVE my coastal scents palette. The colors are fantastic and show up great ! Definitely worth the price :)
I have the Manly 120 palette, which is similar to the color range of the 88 palette collection except more colors. I agree, the products are great and you really get a lot of bang for your buck! :) I'm thinking of getting the 88 warm palette.
i heard so many good things with the palette before. A lot of positive reviews. I have soo much eyeshadow already or else I would purchase this in a heart beat!

@PopStar48@xanga - I get offended when people say things like this. It's just because it's not maufactured in the United States?! Are you serious, for real? Most products are made in China if you haven't checked the labels. Now stop being like that.
@ReviewMyBeauty@xanga - No, its not just because its not manufactured in the US, its because of quality control and the lack of it for some companies who manufacture their products in China. I'm sure you're aware of the problems with things such as children's toys, baby formula, and toothpaste made in China and how they were discovered to have hazardous ingredients inside them. I have no qualms about using most products made in China, but things that go on my face which I can potentially ingest like lipstick, or eyeshadow that I use on my eyes and can get into them I am more wary about using because I can't be sure of the quality of the ingredients especially with long-term use. The US and Europe have much more developed and highly regulated standards for the manufacturing of cosmetics, something that I'm not entirely sure about with China.
I have bought brushes from ELF which manufactures their brushes in China and those, especially the Studio Line brushes are excellent. Even ecotools brushes are excellent. Coastal Scents brushes, however, are not. It makes me question the quality of the rest of their products as well and how good they control the quality of their products.
I can see where you are going yet most people seem to think just because products are from China that they are necessarily bad. I'm pretty sure other high end makeup brands get inported material from China too. Of course I am aware of the "problems" that had occured, yet I'm sure this happens in the US too, they have call-backs all the time yet probably don't put as much enfisis on it because they don't want the world to know about it. I'm obviously sensitive about this subject after hearing people ranting about "oh China did this, China did that" (Not saying you are).
i actually have that same one. it's surprisingly good make-up, especially if you like bold colors. does anyone have the non-shimmer one? i'm thinking about buying it. is it as good as the shimmer one?
i absolutely adore coastal scents. i have the original 88 palette and the 26 blush and shadow combo..as well as a bunch of their brushes.
