  • The Great Makeup Debate

Makeup's sole intention was to make us look beautiful, and accentuate natural beauty. But in recent years, makeup has developed a negative connotation for itself. It's that many people feel if you use makeup, you're obviously either vain, a slut, dumb, or ugly without it.

Now I don't know how these stem from the use of beauty products but hey, if that's your own opinion on this issue, then more power to you.

As quoted by Michelle Phan (that really famous, and absolutely gorgeous makeup artist on YouTube)"People think that all I do is makeup and live in a superficial facade. Yes, I do love makeup but there is more to a person beyond the book cover."

So the question is, how would you look at someone if they wore makeup? And what if they wear it on a daily basis? What's your opinion on makeup?

my thing with make up is, I don't feel like I really need it. Daily, I use a mineral pressed powder foundation, just to help even out my skin tone, plus I like how it feels. Other than that, I'll just do some eye makeup on occasions or even just when I feel like it for fun. Its pretty basic stuff tho, no crazy rainbow business for me.

I must admit that I kinda judge some people who cake it on as being screamingly self-conscious, but for the most part, i have no problem with others wearing it...

make-up is fine if used properly. a lot of girls put on WAYY too much. i think the purpose of make-up is to enhance your natural beauty on a daily basis - meaning minimal make-up (foundation, concealer, mascara, maybe eyeliner but used sparingly). on special occasions, make-up can be used in a more dramatic way

"As quoted by Michelle Phan" ...so you're saying michelle phan quoted someone else saying that? or do you just not know how to use 'quoted' properly?

i wear makeup because it protects my face and just looks better i try and stay natural but i'm open to a bit more risky manuvers with it . AS long as it's tasteful it's cool

I wear make-up every day, but I keep it looking natural. I think it can be a fun source of creativity, like fashion, or a nice way to enhance certain features of your face that you like and disguise things you don't. there IS such a thing as too much, however. which is not good. no one should look like a clown. ever. just... ew. clowns shouldn't even look like that! (can you tell i don't like clowns? :P )

i like my makeup . i put on a thin line of black eyeliner around my eyes + bb cream and everyone at my school thinks i cake on makeup , they always go like , oh geez , without makeup she's soooooo ugly blah blah blah , so yea , especially the girls that dont wear makeup or only put on a bit of eyeliner , they always have to poke comments and insults at me for putting on just a bit more then they do . but really , as long as it's appropriate and not to much it's really fine . But even if a girl puts on a lot and cakes on the makeup, give her a break , maybe she just liked it or she's insecure, by making more comments will make her feel really uncomfortable so seriously, just let them be.

I am guilty as charged. -_-; I had an upbringing  where my mother never ever wanted me to put on any make up, dye my hair nor paint my nails o__o; She keeps telling me that its going to mar my natural beauty and I'll regret it for the rest of my life. She constantly, almost invariably, tell me, that men like women that are simple so I shouldn't bother with make up because I'd only look tawdry and unappealing. So for the majority of my childhood and middle school years I did thought of women who wore make up as "vain, a slut, dumb, or ugly without it." But recently, as I am a junior in high school, I've noticed that most of my friends wear make up and they are nothing like those descriptions mentioned above. They are beautiful on the outside and inside. I don't think there's anything wrong with make up if you want to become more confident. It's a healthy way of taking care of yourself. I think the only reason why the concept of "make-up" is tainted and misunderstood is because the majority of those who wear it are overly narcissistic and does care about what the other person has to offer other than looks. Since I am still recovering from the influence from my childhood I still think of women who wear alot of make up or just make up in general as someone superficial but once I get to know them those assumptions will perish.
