  • PMS: We're Allowed to Be Cranky

    Picture 7
    (MIDOL ad)

There’s just something about this AD that explains it all …..

I used to hate it when stupid boys make stupid comments about how PMS is the reason why a girl is not nice. But COME ON!!!

    We go through: (From WEBMD)

    • Bloating
    • Breast tenderness
    • Weight gain
    • Aggression
    • Trouble concentrating
    • Headaches/backaches
    • Food cravings/overeating
    • Fatigue
    • Tearfulness
    • Irritability
    • Anxiety
    • Mood swings and/or depression
    • Chocolate cravings when we’re on a diet! << FINE! The last is a J’s symptom

According to WEBMD, there’s is nothing that prevents these awful symptoms but with excercise, sufficient rest, and a proper diet, you can manage the symptoms better. Every month, I am literally rolling in bed in PAIN! It’s only bearable after I down my dose of Midol. I even have a friend who even does ACUPUNCTURE for PMS. (I’m telling you!! There’s ACUPUNCTURE for just about everything!)

I was recently educated by GEEK IN HEELS, that in some countries, by law, allows women to take 2 days off from work. So, boys… it really is THAT bad!

What helps you through it and do you have any advice?

I have great homeopathic remedies for menstural cramps.

I wish my boss would let me take two days off because of Aunt Flo coming to visit

There are some great homeopathic remedies to PMS.  And I have to say that eliminating eggs and dairy near your period REALLY helps with the cramps.  I am not sure what it is, but my grandmother read an article about 12-13 years ago and shared it with me.  Since then, when I know my period is coming (which I always know because I'm currently on hormonal BC), I chill with the dairy intake.  Also, just being on bc can help, and I've noticed that symptoms are a lot less intense since I've had kids.  I guess maybe going through the pain of childbirth (all natural, no epi or any pain meds) makes PMS pale in comparison? My mom also said that she noticed a change after she had her first child (me!).  So maybe it's just genetic.  I'm not sure, but I have to say, it's not so bad anymore, though I have had my moments.  Chocolate DURING my period helps a ton.

I don't care about the other symptoms as much as I care about the pain. I will reach for anything to get rid of it, whatever is handy. First would be whatever is handy that is made specifically to treat menstrual issues, but if that is not available its anything that is for pain.

I can handle the other stuff, but sometimes I literally cannot get up if I don't get rid of the cramps. Along with the cramps comes the need to pass out, as well, but once they're gone so is that symptom. Even if the others are still there.

I'm bitchy the first day or so of my menstrual cycle, but it has nothing to do with the cramps. Mostly because even when they're totally gone (thank you over-the-counter meds), I'm still bitchy. Some months I'm very lucky and don't get cramps at all, and I'm still bitchy. :p Those instances, where I am free of cramps the whole time, are rare but they occur. :p

I usually warn people, though. PMS is not my only reason for being bitchy, though. I can be in a bad mood when I'm not PMSing, due to the general stupidity of someone around me. Or my own stupidity. :p But, it doesn't always coincide with PMS. I'm allowed to be in a bad mood even when I'm not PMSing. It does happen. :p

mine`s never THAT bad . my cramps are just AGHHHH , but only on the first day . & the bloating (not that i can even notice it , i`m stick thin) for me usually goes down by the third day . thankfully mine is only four days though (:

  • juliamegan@xanga

Mine's TERRIBLE! As we speak I'm currently crouched over on my bed in a fetal-like position, just waiting for my cramps to GO AWAY! Well, more like waiting for the Advil to kick in. They get so bad that sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night and throw up from the pain =/

  • davidjoeswife@xanga

2 days off? wow.... the luck lol

  • makerm7@xanga

Either I am really blessed with mild periods,or people over-exaggerate.  Seriously, it's not that bad at all.  I think people THINK it's supposed to be bad because that's what everyone says, so then it FEELS bad.

  • phan__tom@xanga

I hate it when men say "oh...it's not that bad..." . Uhm, how the fuck would you know?!? Would you like me to say that to getting kicked in the groin? Don't think so. My periods horrible, I'm on birth control to avoid it.. the cramps are so bad I get knocked out for days.

  • methodElevated@xanga

Using PMS as an excuse to be a bitch is unacceptable in my book.  I think women who do that are prone to be bitchy no matter what day of the month it is.

I've gotten cramps so bad I've thrown up and had diarrhea at the same time and then blacked out from the intense pain.  (I'm highly tolerant of pain, as well, but the cramps become debilitating.  I get white as a ghost, go through cold sweats, and am doubled over in a permanent fetal position.)   I cry easily and get irritable because of the hormones, but I don't let it show.  It isn't fair to subject other people to that.  Have some self-control, and don't act rashly on your emotions.

I keep Advil in my system for a few days when I feel cramps coming on.  If I don't take it soon enough, though, the intense pain usually doesn't go away for several hours and progressively gets to the point of complete immobility until I manage to keep about 6 Advil in my stomach.

PMS is not created equal amongst individuals. It is judging not only pain level, but pain tolerance... eveyone is different

  • ManiCamilee

Mine is awful and the pain has been going on since I was nine so I really dont think advil and midol have an effect on it anymore.

  • musinuite@xanga

My cramps are pretty awful--usually also accompanied by a fever and nausea. It's fun stuff. I haven't had it that bad in a few months though, as I've been severely anemic through my last two cycles. My iron level is back up again, so I'm not looking forward to this next one... -.- I really wish I could take two days off. That'd be nice.

  • kaos_calle@xanga

it's weird...my pms is never worse than a little tummyache and bloating.

  • m0leymol3y@xanga

excercise works fine for me. at first it hurts like hell and thennnnn it's okay :]

  • MissPixieGlitter@xanga

i really don't believe in "pms." it isn't a syndrome indicative of some awful condition. it's a natural bodily cycle; get over it.

  • Swhatley@xanga

This is so funny as I'm just going through PMS for this month.

  • betterdesigned@xanga

I just take Midol and go about everything as normal.

  • aznbunny604@xanga

You may not believe this, but bad posture can have an affect on how badly it hurts. Now I'm no doctor, so if you wanna look into it, go see a chiropractor or a structural therapist.

I had severe cramps since I was 13, and a year ago I went to see a structural therapist. He adjusted my spine and all that crap, and taught me how to sit, walk, and sleep properly. Now I'm cramp free and I couldn't be happier!

Of course, you can totally ignore what I say and rely on painkillers. But after a while the painkillers' side effects will manifest and your liver's gonna shut down!

  • OctoberSkyee@xanga

You forgot acne break-outs. I could deal with the other stuff if my face were clear. But, there is no excuse for being a bitch about it.

  • Tanezia_Delight@xanga

PMS is really a popular word for PMDD, which only a few percentage of women get. PMS isn't really an excuse to be irritable. Sure, when on our periods we get symptons that may make us irritable, but to act on them, or be bitchy and just say it's PMS is kinda bull. You can't blame your bitchyness on it.
