Product Review: Burt's Bee's Shampoo

With all the "go green" campaigns and environment friendly products that are out to save our planet, I thought I would try something organic to see if they're truly as good as they seem.I set out to Target to look at Burt's Bee's organic shampoos, where they're sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate free, pH balanced and over 90% natural (the bottle too!). I chose Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet where "grapefruit oil is the main ingredient that uplifts, cleanses and tones the skin whereas sugar beet extract and soy protein repairs hair follicles and helps against future damage."
The experience: As I pour the shampoo into my palm, it oozes out just like oil and the smell of grapefruit is overwhelming. It's a gentle cleanse without much lather but leaves your hair feeling fresh and clean. As I washed the shampoo out, my hair felt very clean (and I mean very clean), almost to the point where my hair was dry and stiff when I ran my fingers through.
The final result: I love that it's organic, pH balanced without all the cleaning chemicals that can harm your hair, but as they days wore on, I don't think I will be buying another Burt's Bee's shampoo. Why? Unfortunately, I feel that the soy protein and oils just aren't doing the job. My hair feels lackluster. During the day, my hair feels like I didn't even wash it. It's the abundance of oils and the absence of cleaning chemicals that do actually remove all the dirt and scum that accumulates throughout the day. Organic shampoos just aren't tough enough.
Have you tried any Burt's Bee's shampoo? Or any organic shampoo?

i haven't tried organic shampoo yet but i am after i finish the shampoo i'm currently using. although this wasn't the right product for you (and probably some other people) i don't think it should discourage you from trying different organic hair products in the future.
sounds good to me.
but the question is... how much does it cost?
because burt's bees is mad expensive as a CHAPSTICK.
mmm.. i'm using shampoo and conditioner from costco.
y'know, the GINORMOUS two-pack for $5? :]
k8.
I use Burt's Bees once in awhile, but I use the raspberry and brazil nut moisture or whatever it's called. I like it a lot, but I don't use it regularly or sometimes I'll mix it with the Paul Mitchell shampoo that I pretty much won't go anywhere without.
bye.love, KIM.
I got the pomegranate conditioner for around $9 and I was very disappointed. It really made my hair lackluster and even maybe dried it out. I couldn't take it much longer so I went back to my Dove conditioner and now my hair has it's "life" and bounce back :)
I tried this - I have curly hair and I absolutely loved the smell. It smells like grapefruit. However, I didn't find it dried my hair out. Maybe you used too much because it didn't lather? That's what I did the first time of using it too. Once you use the right amount it works really well and makes your hair shiny. But it is a clarifying, not a conditioning shampoo. :)
I'm also pretty sure this shampoo does not contain sulfates so it is well worth the money.
I love Burts Bees shampoo and conditioners. They don't lather a lot but that isn't a big issue for me. It never makes my hair dry (unless I don't condition but that's because my hair is dry anyway) and my hair is RIDICULOUSLY shiny and healthy looking. Plus you aren't supposed to necessarily use a clarifying shampoo everyday. Burts has other options for shampoo that work better for other needs.
@laurenmaureen@xanga - Usually costs between $5-$8.
I'd love to try it, if it's cheap. lol.
vote for me! (:
@blackspiders@xanga - I like the ORGANIX products too, but they really aren't any better than other chemical filled shampoos. They contain some fishy ingredients. I was sad when I found out. Either way, the brand works pretty well.
I've actually been using the burts bees products for over two years now (the shampoo and condition) and yes i noticed a difference that I didn't really like the first time using it, but as I got used to it, a lot of people started commenting on how it looked. I really like their products.
I haven't tried this, nor will I. I have my hair dyed most of the time, so organic shampoo's wouldn't be best for my hair. However, I've seen many people purchase this product at my work. Don't really know how they feel about it though.
I have used tons of Burt's Bees product, but never their hair stuff. I'm finicky about the hair products I use...I have bleached hair so I can't afford to use something that'd dry it out even more
OMG! Where can I get them?? :O I am a fan of Burts Bee :D
I have organix and it's just $7 a bottle and sulfate free. I have to say that it makes my hair nice and soft and really does clean it.
@blackspiders@xanga - i love the coconut kind of organix, i get the big bottle for like 8 dollars from bj's
i like some of burt's bees stuff but not all of it and some is more pricey than i'd like, that's why i haven't tried their shampoos.
Most of burt's bees products are excessively oily, especially the carrot or orange ones. That's why I use their face wash, it puts back more oil than it takes away, so my face gets less dry.
i have these, the pomegranate ones. i really am disappointed =[ the shampoo is really runny and doesnt lather well at all, and idk the conditioner is okay but i just don't think it was worth the money at all
I had that same feeling in my hair after using Burt's Bees too =/
I have used the pomergranite one. On one hand I Loved the smell, XD but it wasn't anything special otherwise. It worked all well and good but for the price of a bottle of the stuff I was expecting something really spectaular.
But thats the only Burts Bee's product I have not been completely %100 thrilled with, the chapstick with the peppermint oil in it is honestly amoung my favourite things on this planet.
This stuff is really expensive. I would never use it, but I bet it smells really good :p
Based on what you said, I was thinking of buying it. As I read on, I decided not to. My hair is dry as it is already, if it'll just add to the dryness, I'll pass!
Very pricey, but would love to try it one day.
