I'll Take My Shampoo Solid, Thank You Very Much
I always thought being eco-friendly was for other people. You know the people I’m taking about: the neighbor who duct tapes her Birkenstocks, the guy outside the library strumming his guitar and swaying his dreads to the music… But cosmetic company Lush changed my perception with a catalog full of stuff I would totally use. I mean hello, body butter! And sugar scrub, are you kidding? All their products are made from fresh ingredients, package free (unless they have to, and then they use recycled and biodegradable materials), and made-by-hand. But I have to admit I was curious to how they could sell shampoo and conditioner without packaging. As a result of my digging, I think I found my new must-have beauty product: Solid Shampoo and Conditioner. And wouldn’t you know it, it’s one of their most environmentally friendly products they offer. Both the shampoo and conditioner look similar to a bar of soap but instead of lathering your body, you rub them on your scalp a couple times before giving it a good rinse. And just like a bar of soap these last forever (one bar is equivalent to a 25 oz bottle). And at less than $10 a pop you’re not only saving the planet, you’re also saving your money.
Have you tried solid shampoo? Would you buy it?

we sell bar shampoo at the salon I work at, but I wouldn't use it. It doesn't smell very good.
whats it smell like?
i have really curly hair and i think rubbing a bar of soap on it would make it more tangled than it already gets.
I wanna try! Saves the environment & saves money.
I don't think so, shampoo is the one thing I don't mind splurging on.
my bar soap melts in the shower rather quickly. if i buy an expensive bar i always take it out of the shower each time. lol.
Eh, no thanks. Don't get me wrong, I <3 Earth and all that, but I like my hair more. It's a fickle creature, and I don't wanna be rubbin' a bar of soap on it.
i'm gonna try it once i finish the shampoo i'm currently using. i've been trying to find a good biodegradable shampoo/conditioner.
@live_for_love@xanga - and it's not a bar of soap, it's a bar of shampoo.
@iiinfinitesimal@xanga - Either way, my comment still stands.
@iiinfinitesimal@xanga - Shampoo is just soap...soap for your hair, lol.
@live_for_love@xanga - i'm going to agree with you.
I wouldnt mind trying it if it smelt good and helped my hair - I love that shop Lush, they have good soaps
@live_for_love@xanga - LOL i hear you about the earth thing, i walk every place and i dont drive that me doing my part my hair shouldnt suffer
I use Chagrin Valley soap bars and shampoo bars. Love 'em.
i wanna try it!
I used to use bar soap as shampoo when I lived in Vietnam.
Ahh i love Lush, i might try it :) x
This would be good for traveling, imo.
Still though, unless I like the results/ scent better than the Aveda Rosemary Mint, probably not.
i've never used it but i would def. try it. i miss my vegan days when everything i used was eco friendly ...
@tigerdauphin@xanga - i tried that once when i ran out of shampoo. it made my hair all stick together and super dry, yickk
I want to try!
I don't like anything in bar form. We have a full household and the idea of rubbing something on my body that everyone else has been rubbing on their body is sort of gross to me. I like liquid soaps and shampoos because they are cleaner. I wouldn't mind a concentrate or even a dry one that would liquify after it was soaked in water but I won't be rubbing a bar of shampoo on my head anytime soon.
Yeah! It's a nice thing! :)
I use this shampoo (the blue one in the picture, actually) and i have to say how amazing it is! It smells wonderful, is pretty cheapas far as good hair products go, and lasts for ages. Seriously, the bar i'm on now has barely shrunk at all after 3 months of using it everyother day.
I dont normally care about beauty products, but this is one i really love.
@CoutureCarlee - I think I'll try it =) especially since it seems to last a while
For the ppl with curly hair with reservations about it, I have curly hair too I don't get the big deal. Just lather it up in your hand and spread it through.
I'd like to try it
