My First Experience in a Sephora Store
I went on "vacation" for 3 weeks to my home state, North Carolina. While there I took advantage of the Sephora store in Crabtree Valley Mall. At first I was extremely nervous, no idea why, but I was! I have shopped at Sephora online before, but I wasn't sure how my store experience would be. I've always thought of malls and high end stores as scary places where salesgirls try to tackle you and make you buy products you really don't like. This totally wasn't the case for me!
The ladies that worked at the store I visited were EXTREMELY helpful and sweet. They weren't stuck up, or intimidating. The three women that helped me find products were the most helpful people I have ever come in contact with while shopping - no joke.
I wasn't sure what products were best for me, so the girl offered to test the Make Up Forever HD line on me. They removed my make up and diagnosed me with very dry skin, and prepped my face for the make up application.First she applied Korres Hydrating Nightime Moisturizer (it was later in the evening, around 7:30pm), then went to work on the makeup. First step was the primer, which was the Blue colored Makeup Forever HD primer. Then the girl determined my foundation color and showed me how to get the best match. Then she showed me step by step how to apply with a foundation brush. After that she put on the Murad concealer for acne prone skin, and blended it in. After everything was on, she dusted my face in the setting powder, and revealed a totally new face. I was so excited! My skin looked perfect, all of the colors blended in perfectly! My last question revolved around blush, and I told her that I wanted to try the "NARS Orgasm" blush. She brought it over and asked if I wanted her honest opinion on it. Of course I wanted her honest opinion - and she revealed how dull and boring that blush really is. It hardly had any color! So she recommended a better product which I LOVED WAY MORE.
In the end, I left the store a very happy girl. I bought plenty of eye shadows and had a great experience. I only hope that Sephora workers are that awesome all around the country!
What was your first time Sephora experience like? Do you like going shopping at Sephora?

I LOVE Sephora. I've always wanted one of them to do my makeup for me, but I end up running around playing with everything on my own.
they dont get commission, so the chances they tackle you to buy stuff u dont need..is probably minimal...unless they are wayyy behind budget =P but having someone thats knowleable enough to show u the products and test out the right colour..is always helpful!
I love the store, but I tend to stay to myself... a lot of the employees are knowledgeable about all of their products but sometimes do try to just sell you something instead of just saying "this is the wrong color. I now have one product which I got from there which the sales lady assured me was my color. It definitely wasn't! And I didn't know I could return it (the idea of returning used makeup??? who knew?!) so I didn't and was out $30. So yeah :( I'll stick with department stores or MAC
I'm addicted to all things Sephora. I have a friend who works at the store in Ala Moana, and she always slips me free stuff. Love her!
Before I got into makeup though, I remember being intimidated by Sephora... Can't pinpoint why.
I love shopping there! Everyone is always so nice and willing to help if you are unsure about a product.
I have never set foot in a Sephora store.
I love Sephora! They are so helpful. I had this awful hickey one time and I went to get it covered up after a friend gave me the idea to do so. Best idea ever. That week, I went to 5 Sephora's in the city to get that sucker covered up.
Other than that, they really know a lot about makeup. I've always wanted to work there and learn more about what to do with this face of mines =/
I love Sephora!
My boyfriend was even nice and bared with me and went in.
@nuffaH@xanga - I was really intimidated at first. I was so nervous. It's just a store though, so I just walked in and kinda lurked around until a lady noticed me. :p
@xBunBunx@xanga - I think my boyfriend had fun in there smelling stuff and pointing out what he thought would look nice on me. After 3 hours his fingers were hurting from holding my bags though.
The only time I was in Sephora was to have someone help me with the Anastasia eyebrow powder since I normally use a pencil. No one greeted me or offered to help. When I went to search one out, she told me to go find someone name "____" and then when I found that girl, she says she was too busy so she told me to find "_____" and then that girl informed me she was leaving since her shift ended.

I normally keep to myself in Ulta and Sephora (yes I have been back) but I only went into Sephora specifically for Anastasia products but was disappointed.
I didn't buy it then and have yet to buy anything from Sephora since. I buy most of mine at Ulta.
I buy most of my makeup there. I don't like MAC and I feel like department store makeup is for old people. Maybe I'm just making things up.
I'm also from North Carolina.
I don't get my makeup from Sephora, but the workers here are just as helpful.
i love sephora and their array of products and lines.....they really do have every product possible. I do get a little overwhelmed when I want to get something because its like there are SO many choices which one do I choose?? Like ok this sale person will direct me towards this product but why not the 20 others??....but I am hearing a lot about this make up forever HD line. I dont know where I first saw it but for some reason it was the most appealing line to me. Especially with their different color primers that are suppose to help different problems with your skin. I wanna get the green one because of my acne. Green is supposively the best color to use to cover up redness.
loove the store and the girls there are really nicee. makeup is just overwhelming for me.
Great experience at Sephora as well. I really enjoy the friendly employees.
I know, right? Sephora is so wonderful.
It might help that I love makeup like I do few other things.
I've love the store. They are a little too expensive for me, but I buy BM Matte foundation there. I really want some of their eyeshadows & liner (Sephora brand). They're extremely helpful and I always leave with samples!! :D
No I understand what you're saying..I use to get nervous in high-end stores also....and upscale malls...like "I don't belong here." Nevertheless, now I just remember why should I feel scared of a sales person, they are working a retail job, no offense. Basically, there is no reason to feel nervous around anyone...they are not anything special. If you do get pushy retail workers, just learn to say "no." If you ever end up "falling" for their cons, just return it a few days later. Ha.
Ulta is even less intimidating. The salespeople greet you and leave you alone for the rest of the time you're in there. I love it.
lol im glad you had a good experience..but looking at it from another perspective..
shes being nice because she needs to sell..and obviously she succeeded.
hope you can really make use of what you bought..
I'm glad to hear that 'cause I live in NC! and I love Crabtree. =]
nars orgasm barely has any color?! i find it to be extremely vibrant.
I love Sephora. I love how you can try things on yourself and you can even get help trying things on. Everything is pretty pricey, but good quality, and great service.
I'm afraid to splurge, especially for things that I "didn't know I needed until now."
OMG! that sounds amazing!!!
i loveeeeee sephora, its like a kid in a candy store. what blush did you end up getting?
