Product Review: Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner
Eyeliner is fantastic. Use as much or as little as you want; pile it on, wing it out, don't use it at all, it's totally personalizeable. Of course, like all products, it's important to find the right one for you.
I loooove thick eyeliner on both my top and bottom lids, paired tastefully with the rest of my eye makeup, of course. It's important for me to find an eyeliner that applies easily, isn't completely altered by my eyeshadow, and smudges just the right amount, as well as keeping on my babysitting budget. After running out of my Elizabeth Arden Eye Pencil in Kohlberry, I was desperate to find a new eyeliner, any eyeliner would do as long as I could keep my signature blackened eyes. Scanning through Target's makeup aisles, I came across Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner in Jet Black. It was $3.50, so hey, it would do for now.
This eyeliner is decent at best. The black is very black, which is perfect for me. At first it goes on nicely, but once I start to put my first layer of eyeshadow on (L'Oreal Infinite Eyeshadow in Buttercup) it turns this weird dark silvery color. It smudges horribly as well, daily I get random dark lines on areas of my face not even near my eyes. It's also impossible to remove, from anywhere, when you try rubbing it off it only smudges out over a further area. Finally, it's not good for someone who sweats a lot. By the end of my 7 hour school day, my eyeliner looks more gray than black.
My eyeliner, just applied. (above).
After 7 hours.Overall review: Rimmel's Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner stays true to color, but that's about the only benefit to this mediocre eyeliner. It smudges more than an eyeliner should and if you wanna use it with anything but itself, prepare to be disappointed. Save your money and get something nicer, or get something of the same price for a different brand. 4 out of 10.
Have you tried this eyeliner? Do you like Rimmel makeup?

I think I like it better after 7 hours lol
@kimtendo@xanga - ehh, it works if you like super-smudgy, and some people do, but i like my eyeliner to stay black.
the sephora brand eyeliner and the urban decay eyeliner work really well, too.
: )
i have this eyeliner. it's not my favorite but it gets the job done.
I only use it for my lower lid only.
I don't really use pencil on my top lid unless i'm going for a smokey eye look.
anyways, i personally would only give it about a 6.5.
Urban decay is way better.
But it's cheap and will do the job.
I like any eyeliiner that actually stays on and doesn't smear easily. It's not really a brand that gets me,it's the quality...
oo instead of using the rimmel eyeliner you should use the eyebrow pencil!!!
its works much better than the eye liner as it doesn't smudge as much and stays on for longer :)
Rimmel is okay, as far as drugstore brands go Revlon Colorstay is much better...
I use urban decay or MAC usually though.
yeah, I just use black eyeshadow it packs better & stays well put for the most part plus it's cheap.
gah I only use make up forevers waterproof liners now-a-days. cheap? nope. worth every penny? hell yea.
I have this one. I like it better when it's smudged up though.
I wish I could wear it. It looks pretty. My allergies are horrible.
I wore this today lol! I only use it when all my other eyeliners are worn down and used up. It doesn't seem to go on thick for me and no matter how much I sharpen it it always scratches my eye a bit =/ It's too smudgy too. I like thick, bold lines. Eyeliners something you should spend a little more on, if you use it as much as I do.
The point that you didn't put in is that kohl is a soot based product. It really isn't good for combining with other make up, because of their chemical properties. I know that when my cousins and I wear kohl, we usually apply it last and then don't touch it for the rest of the day. More often than not, we don't even wear any shadow with it.
Also, because it is soot based, it's not waterproof and it won't ever be. However, kohl smears are permanent, so if you get them on your clothes, they aren't going to come off.
Lastly, the biggest thing about kohl is that you don't need that much. Just draw a thin line along your lashes and then smudge into the corners to create the black smoky effect. It's meant to be smudged. Kohl is great for a dramatic look without having to use a lot of shadow.
Yes, sweat can cause it to run, but you can avoid that in two ways. One, use less kohl to begin with, and two, use small oil absorbing pads like the ones sold be Clean&Clear to pick up the oil and sweat in a break during your day and it should minimize any unwanted smearing.
Personally, I wish that the label didn't say eye liner because kohl isn't really an eye liner as much as it is used as both eye liner and shadow. I think the comment eye liner is just confusing.
I've never tried this, but I also don't usually wear a lot of eyeliner unless I want to look really nice. But then I usually just grab my liquid stuff. Personally I like the "7 hours later" picture but I also don't think you should wear that much dark liner. It would probably look better with just the top.
Never tried that eyeliner. The one i have is fair, not the best and not the worst (and its not expensive but works) so i dont have a reason to try something else yet.
I don't really wear makeup to begin with.
when i can't afford to go buy urban decay,
i usually use rimmel.
i find their mascaras to work the best,
as well as their eyeliners.
and don't even get me started on their lipstick
try avon's eye liner.. or revlon's colorstay..which works the same for me but double the price.
Thanks for the review, I am going to try this out when I need to get a black kohl. (I wear dark brown.)
I only use liquid
try using loreal's hip eyeliner. it's absolutely amazing. i put it on at 6 a.m. for school, and it's still on perfectly when i go to sleep at night. it even is perfect after gym glass. i use this specific kind ->
okay, this picture didn't show up, but it's the round eyeliner that you open up, ya know? i'm not sure if the pencil works good too, but definetly you should buy that kind. it's more pricey but works 50 times better. i bought mine for around 8 or 10$.
Hate this eyeliner.
