  • Girls With Unbearable Eye Makeup

When I look at a person, the first thing I look at is their eyes. The thing that bugs me the most are girls with unbearable eye makeup.  I know it's mean but I've personally categorized them.  My purpose for this is not to ridicule or to make fun of them.  No, I'm not that mean.  I just want US (that includes me) to avoid these colossal mistakes. Here goes:

    1.  "Eyeliner Happy" - These are the girls who I think must finish a whole pencil of liner in just one application.  I don't know why girls do this.  I know that a liner would help define our eyes and it makes our eyes look bigger.  But when you look like a raccoon because of layers and layers of the black pencil, I don't think it serves the purpose quite right.  Agree?

    2.  "One color fits all" - Professionals would use several eye shadow shades on their models.  And most of us aren't professionals and so blending a ton of eye shadow shades wouldn't be advisable if it would look too messy on us.  I personally use one two to three shades if I'm in the mood to blend and do the whole hullabaloo.  When I get lazy, I put nothing at all.  The girls that belong to this category are those that just pack in their lids one shade, usually the bold colors like blue, green, or violet.  Why it bugs me?  Because it's just not right.  It doesn't look pleasant.  Usually, it just looks tacky.  Right?

    3.  "I see the borderline" - These girls are those who have two shadow shades on their lids.  But when they quickly blink, you could see the division between the two colors!  Where's the art of blending, then?  All forgotten.  Especially with two very different shades (one light and one dark) or two very different color palettes (e.g., blue and pink).  If you do not have enough time/skill to pull a two+ shadow shade, just skip it and spare yourself from bad feedback.

    4.  "Matchy match" - Have you seen a girl wearing a blue top with blue eye shadow on?  I guess this is a personal pet peeve of mine.  I've attended a beauty workshop way back when I was still 15 years old and one the no-no's the girl reiterated was to have our eyeshadow match the color of our top.  I hope everyone takes note of that ;)

I've committed these crimes once, I must admit.  I've learned that there are no certain rules in eyeshadow makeups, but I sure do know what looks good on someone.

P.S.  I have this personal favorite video that has helped me improve my eye shadow application technique.  Watch it HERE :)

I'm pretty sure everyone has their own pet peeves about eyeshadow makeups.  What are your no-no's when it comes to eye shadows?  What are your tips?

:p thanks. and i think number one works if you have really blue eyes because of the contrast.. but too much can make the person look racoonish, I agree :)

ah ah interesting. it's better to wear nothing in some cases.

  • mustardcat@xanga

I only wear mascara unless im going out and have the time. Usually i'll just use brown/light creamy tones, and apply them very lightly.

I know lots of girls who put on way to much make-up and they look like fucking clowns.

  • MissPixieGlitter@xanga

i see "eyeliner happy" too often. ::shudders::

but i also dislike poorly applied mascara yielding spider eyes and fake eyelashes that are too obviously fake.

Ewww...I notice people's eye makeup and it's not even any of my business...I hate excessive eyeliner and distasteful eyeshadow.

I think my mom looks like a chain smoking faerie because of the way she does her makeup. I mean seriously. She's 53, she needs to stop it with the f***ing glitter. I've never worn glitter. My mom has green eyes just like mine (or rather mine are just like hers) and she wears green eyeshadow (IN THE CREASE OF HER EYELID!!!)...congrats, people are now looking at your eyeshadow and glitter instead of your gorgeous green eyes.

That picture made me go "GAH!".  Scary stuff.

I just wear the colors I want, blend them how I want, etc. I don't really care if it annoys other people.

  • Imnotcrazyjustinsane@xanga

I usually put girls who do this all in one category of "I don't like":
Girls who have bleached blonde hair, a fake tan, and a LOT of blackest black eyeliner and mascara on.

I automatically don't like them, and I think that we would never get along.

I'm not even sure if I'd get along with them 'cause I usually don't associate myself with them...

  • Meowmeowkimmaee@xanga

I avoid this by wearing no makeup at all.

  • SeitekiChibiNeko@xanga

haha i actually like that neon blue eyeshadow
blame too many years of stage makeup ^_^

  • MangoWOW@xanga

I think high school girls do number 2 a lot (haha)... but that's more because they haven't been taught how to properly apply make up. I know I didn't really learn until college when I worked at Victoria's Secret (they teach you there).
I don't think the one color one is bad if you use natural colors (which is what I do). I like to blend browns into my skin.

Btw I totally feel you on the eyeliner. Who else is tired of these scene/emo/trendy girls who use a buttload of liner?

  • chell_kicks_08@xanga

    @SeitekiChibiNeko@xanga -
TOTALLY!!!! lol I've been on stage due to theatre and dance so much this looks almost normal... I'm like "where's the glitter?" lol!!!

  • chell_kicks_08@xanga

Number two I don't agree with. I've worn one shade blue, green, purple, gold, silver... it is how much you use... one color can look glorious if you can use a smuge stick well. ^.^

    wink

Haha sometimes when I'm lazy I just end up swiping a shimmery silver shade (MAC's Idol Eyes) on my lids. It's not crazy strong because on my skin tone it just looks like a light shimmer and looks good with a good application of liquid eyeliner to make a slight cats eye flick. I get compliments on it and people ask me to do their eyes like I do mine. So... that definitely wouldn't be happening if I used say, a blue or pink eyeshadow haha.

And I think the only place crazy different palettes of eyeshadow would work (ie pink&blue&yellow) is on a MAC ad campaign. That and a photography session or runway haha.

Thanks for the link though! Lately I've been trying to find videos on how to put on eyeshadow differently (idol eyes and black liquid liner isn't pulling it for me anymore..) sooo I'll definitely watch it :)

  • killthoseclowns@xanga

@MissPixieGlitter@xanga - Oh those should be two categories all on their own. A lot of people have never heard the need to wipe down the mascara wand a bit before applying. It's definitely a bad look..

  • RaquelHiggins005@xanga

I don't really wear makeup but when I do, I only use neutral tones so it just emphasizes my skin tone instead of looking like I obviously dabbed on some make up.

  • v_valdovinos@xanga

I only disagree with #2 because I think one color of eyeshadow looks nice when it a) doesn't go from lash line to brow and b) when it's not as heavily applied as the picture above. The worst is when someone does all of these, I see this when I go to parties, one girl always wears silver shadow and black shadow on the crease (unblended) then she uses black liner EVERYWHERE -AND- adds a line of silver liner at the top. regardless to say it looks overdone. That's just my take on it.

  • PerkyPunk8064@xanga

I have red hair, green eyes, and very pale skin. I pretty much wear any color eyeshadow I want. I literally have done rainbow eyeshadow.

However. That being said. I've been doing make-up for several years now and I know how to properly blend and make it look good instead of like a clown or Mimi from the Drew Carrey show.
But I do agree with you on the eyeliner and the lack of blending. it is pretty obnoxious. :\
  • stardustskye@xanga

I didn't know  #4 was a rule... If I'm wearing a shirt that has bright blue on it (not all over, but let's say a bright blue star on a black top), I'll wear a blue eyeshadow. Yeah, it may not look natural, but sometimes I feel like being bold with my eye make-up. same goes if I'm wearing a purple top, I'll wear purple eyeshadow (of course, I'll blend nicely with darker shades of purple, etc.)

so I'm probably just going to disregard that one, haha.

  • storiesandsinker@xanga

I actually find it kind of cute when girls match their eyeshadow to the color of their shirt.

  • n1colee@xanga

I used to think those raccoon eyes were mainly caused by an overload of eyeliner. But a lot of girls put on eyeliner, and then make the line thicker by using mascara as some sort of paint brush.

  • oO_Grace_Oo@xanga

agree, thank god i m not an "eyes" person,,,when it comes to make up

  • AmistadBaby@xanga

Crap. I match my eyeshadow to my clothes all the time. I should stop that....

  • eyeshadowisLOVE

I agree that "to each, their own" when it comes to eye makeup. I have a friend who HATES eye shadow creases. I mean, you'd really think you'd just said something personally offensive to her the way she hates it so much. I hate it too, actually. But in my case, I have really oily lids... so it's the most DIFFICULT thing in the whole wide world to combat, lol. Like, what am I supposed to do, never blink? Exactly. And yeah... I've been guilty of the whole "not blending the 2 colors" thing before. I didn't know how! But now I do :)

  • goblinsinthemirror@xanga

I have no idea what blending means.

Somedays I try to use makeup to "enhance" my features and look natural, and other days I wear makeup to look different and bold. For example, I have green eyes so I think I look terrible in blue eyeshadow, but somedays I wear it anyway.

I hate raccoon eyes though. I remember on Gossip Girl when Jenny had that dumb haircut and raccoon eyes - I'm "over" that scene phase.
