Waterproof Mascara for Summer Swimming
With swimming I have one major problem: mascara. I will not leave the house without mascara on. Shallow, I know! Thus, I have a major problem.
I must wear mascara out of the house, yet every mascara, from the expensive to the cheap, smudges. At least all the ones I’ve tried! Waterproof doesn’t necessarily mean smudgeproof! Then I’m presented with trying to wipe the smudges from under my eyes. Not a very attractive look.
I could a) not wear mascara b) remove the mascara c) get tubular mascara. A is out of the question, and B takes too much time! As for C, it’s the perfect solution!
Why? Because tubular mascaras have a high cohesive strength and a low adhesive strength. The mascara binds together and stays in one piece as it slides off your lashes. And why is this great for swimming? As it comes off in one piece, the bits are easily washed away and there are no smudges to be had!
I was looking for a cheaper alternative to the expensive tubular mascaras out there, and I have to say, the cheapest isn’t so cheap! L’Oreal’s Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara is about $12, while Clinique’s Lash Power Mascara Long Wearing Formula is $18 and blinc’s Kiss Me Mascara (the one that started it all!) is $25.
On to the actual mascara! I like my lashes to be voluminous, lengthened, and hold the curl I put there (yes, everything). Did Beauty Tubes deliver? Sort of. This double-ended mascara has a primer on one end and the actual mascara on the other.
I actually like the brush on the primer more than the brush on the mascara. The primer coated my lashes evenly, didn’t make my mascara grey, and the brush had a bit of a ‘plumping’ effect. I may buy this just for the primer!
As for the other end, the mascara was mediocre. The brush had sparse bristles, which isn’t great as my lashes are really thin, and the brush didn’t really ‘grab’ each lash. A lot of mascara ended on my eyelids instead of my lashes! If you use too many coats, the mascara also makes a few of you lashes ‘stick’ together, creating a what I call the ‘star effect’. Yuck. The volume just wasn’t there, even with repeated wiggling at the root! As for length and curl, the mascara lengthened my lashes nicely, and held the curl quite nicely too! Though the mascara dries a tad bit stiff.
Removal was a breeze in the shower, and this was perfect in the pool! There was also no flaking. This stuff stays put!
The Result? A good standby for now, but I’m onto bigger (and sadly, more expensive) mascaras!
Have you tried this product or a product similar to it? What did you think?

THAT IS MY VIDEO REVIEW FOR ANOTHER GREAT WATERPROOF MASCARA! & it works AMAZING!!! ;)\
check it out
That's actually my favorite mascara.
I got a sample size of the Clinique Lash Power Mascara last time I bought something from them. I hate it. It doesn't add much volume at all, though it does define the lashes quite well. And, it smudges. I teach swim lessons, so im in the pool all day. I don't put the mascara on in the morning, but I can never get it all off at night with the eye makeup removers that I have. Then i look in the mirror after my lessons, and I've got intense racoon eyes from the mascara! Don't waste your money on it. It sounds like the Loreal product is much better.
my favorite mascara and the only one i use is the one above, swimming or not
well, i don't approve of make up at all, but maybe next time you can look up a synchronized swimmer's blog and ask her for make up tips... have you ever seen a synchronized swimming team? they always have lots of makeup on! and it stays on through their entire routine!
I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.
@black_lie@xanga - Just out of curiosity, why don't you approve of makeup?
hi i use this brand Powerstyle. Its very amazing, i have very sensitive eyes and am even allergic to acrylic and I am not allergic to this. I tried it even in the shower and it didnt budge even when i rubbed my eyes:) hehe.its a japanese brand..It has its line of eye liners too which do the job.
@LiquidityOfSelf@xanga - well, to me, it's gross, artificial, shallow, fake, dishonest, dirty, annoying, a waste of money, a waste of time, and a pain to put on and take off. but that is just me.
@black_lie@xanga - I've never heard of someone hating makeup so much! I don't see anything wrong with a woman wanting to look her best, but hey, to each her own. Although, when I see makeup painted on - raccoon eyes, full out foundation, obnoxious lip color - it just looks plain trashy. At the end of the day, however, it's that woman's choice. Hah, if she wants to look like a clown, she can do whatever the hell she wants.
I won't go out without mascara and cover up, at least. But that's really very little.
@LiquidityOfSelf@xanga - it's just a matter of opinion =) to me, a woman looks her best when she is most confident, and being that i am completely uncomfortable with even the least hint of make up on (i don't even wear colored gloss or use blemish.. coverer.. whatever it's called), i feel that i look my best sans make up.
@black_lie@xanga - Oh I totally agree. Confidence is prettier than anything
i LOVE clinique's lash powerr!
I must try this mascara because this summer I've been going to the pool and also like to look great underwater. I really wish they had waterproof eyeliner. lol
I always looked for the most expensive options for waterproof mascaras, and they always smudged. Well, I finally had given up and just went toa waterpark wearing ****GreatLash Mascara (Waterproof) and DiorLiner (Waterproof kind)**** .... not one smudge! after wearing it all day, getting splashed in the face, literally getting in the pool and SWIMMING, still no smudges
*** another tip is to not touch your eyes. if you get water on them, close them and wait for the water to get off. do not try to wipe the water off your eyes! it makes a HUGE difference
I also love clinique's lash power and just added Daracs mascara to my collection, which im also truly falling in love with :)
i've used it but its a bit sticky.
i work in a pool an avon waterproof stays on a whole shift without smudges
I personally love this mascara. It's possibly the easiest mascara to remove. All you need is hot water and a washcloth and POOF! It's gone.
"I like my lashes to be voluminous, lengthened, and hold the curl I put there (yes, everything)"
that's exactly what i want in a mascara too! i use maybelline full n soft waterproof.
currently trying to find a navy blue waterproof mascara that works as good as the one i regularly use and does the same things. any ideas?
