Can I Get An Infection From Using Somebody Else's Make-up?

This is something my mom always told me when I first started wearing make up at 13 years old: Don't use anyone else's make up. You could get an infection! And its true. But you can also get infections from you're own make up or just applying make-up with dirty fingers.
Washing your hands is a simple way to prevent infections and getting foreign objects in your eyes (like dirt, lint, etc.). We've been taught this for as long as we can remember! Clean hands aren't just for applying make up! On top of clean hands, try not to put your brushes, wands, or other make up application tools on counter tops. It exposes them to germs that can be damaging to eyes or skin.
Above all, don't share your make up or application tools with other people without cleaning them first. Even at make-up counters when testing make-up. Here's a video on Cosmetics Counter Etiquette Tips by Petrilude.
Did you know it was a potential risk to use somebody else's make up? What other myths have you heard and want to clear up?

There's potiental risks doing just about everything. I share make-up brushes and applicators with my friends all the time, and have yet to get an infection. The only time I refuse to use someone else's make-up is if they have pink eye or soemthing.
duh
its fine for most things i think, except eye makeup, which is a definite NO. that would be a direct spread of bacteria between eyes, which could potentially be very bad.
The only thing i dont share is eyeliner, because I put that in the inner lid sometimes. &I only share my make-up with 2 people at the most, I have never gotten an infection, or known of them getting one. &Yes i knew it was possible.
It depends on where you put it, and if you are shareing, you should be wiping it off before and after you use it!!common sense O_O always clean your brushes & wash your hands
@mizz_geeh@xanga - !
xo
@MiSS__NARA@xanga - ditto.
i dont really like the idea of sharing my makeup.
blaaaah, id never use anyone elses makeup..
i let my two close friends use my makeup cuz i know where they've been, whether or not they're sick, etc.
i always make sure to yell at the one that uses contacts not to use my eye stuff without cleaning it off first...if you wear contacts you have to be more careful because you're at a higher risk of infection!!
I break out within 3 minutes if I use someone else's face stuff- blush, powder, bronzer, whatever. time has taught me to ONLY SHARE eye stuff a mong my closest girlfriends. I won't use lip stuff because too many have cold sores and don't consider that a big deal.
you can get an infection or virus by riding the bus... any thing that involves contact is potentially risky xDD theres no need to panic
i've only heard rumors about sharing eye makeup and getting an infection but i have never used anyone else's makeup before so i don't know. but i wouldn't try it though.
I know this but I had to a dance show, and the teacher broght us black eyeshadow to share, and the next day I had a lump on my eye and I thought it was an eye infection but the doctor discovered I was allergic to the make-up
Consider your make-up something personal.
Personal things need not be shared with other people.
YES. Clean your brushes, if you use a friend's clean theirs before using. Eyeliner is okay IF you spray it down with alcohol (or any sterilizer) and sharpen it down to the unused parts. Mascara is NEVER okay.
Personally, I keep my kit in the top most condition, I've got a bottle to sterilize my brushes and makeup everywhere I go because I went to school with a girl who used someone else's makeup in cheerleading, and somehow got cysts all over her face.
Make sure you wash your hands before you begin putting on makeup, whether it be on you or someone else.
@coldfaceblush that's the most dangerous one TO share. I hope you're cleaning it off between uses and friends.
psh. me and my best friend of 11 years share all the time.
Nothing's happened to us yet.
I must have been immuned to it. XDÂ
I learned that wayyyy back in the day, after I had just shared someone's mascara lol. Oops! But now I know better and I'm the better for it
I'm also better at cleaning my brushes, which is something I used to be terrible about. So yay for all that :)
omg, i always shared makeup with my friends, but today i went into school and saw my friend jackie, who was out the day before, and her eye was all weird. i asked what happened and she said she got this thing, that started with s, but i forget, from using her friends eyeliner. i was like omg. and now i dont think im going to be sharing makeup anymore.
