For any of you in the northeastern portion of the country, you know we have at least another week of winter in our future. This weekend felt like spring when temperatures reached a whopping 40° F, but below freezing temps are in our forecast. Even though I know warm weather will continue to allude me this week, I cannot bear to paint another dark winter color onto my nails. At the same time, it's way too early to break out my favorite spring polishes. This week I decided to go with simple, neutral colors with a pop of mint to usher in the spring.
I was inspired by a nude and black french manicure, but it needed a little pop of color to add the hint of spring that I'm (not so) patiently waiting for. Mint seemed like the perfect warm weather color to transition this manicure from winter to spring.
After filing my nails and cleaning up my cuticles, I started this manicure off with two coats of a nude nail polish. I used Samoan Sand by OPI.
After my nude polish was nearly dry, I added my mint details. I used Mint Sorbet by Sally Hansen. The thick strips along the tips of my nails were done with the normal brush from the polish. Any thin lines I made using tape.
Finally I added my black details. For this step I used a black striper, which made it really easy to paint clean, straight lines.
After they had dried completely, I added a top coat to seal in my designs and smooth over any sections of my nails that had more polish layered on.
These nails have gotten a lot of attention considering how simple they were to create. Next time you're in need of a chic manicure, but you don't want to spend the money to go to a nail artist, I definitely recommend trying something like this!
I love how my nails turned out, and every time I look down at my hands I'm reminded that spring is on its way!
What are some of your favorite spring nail colors, Lovelies? Will you try this manicure at home?
