After New Year’s you may be telling yourself that you’re not going out for a very long time, but the opportunity will present itself sooner rather than later. There’s nothing wrong with letting loose once in a while! It’s all about moderation because it wreaks havoc on your body, especially your skin. Knowing how to care for your skin after a night out will spare you a lot of damage and stress!
1. Cleanse that make up off ASAP!
Ideally you want to do this when you get home from the party. However, realistically this probably won’t happen (kudos to you if you do though!) Clean off all that makeup as soon as you’re able to because the longer it stays on your skin, the more problems you’ll have. Your skin needs to breathe and makeup prevents it from doing that! You can also exfoliate the makeup off to get a fresh face.
2. Take a break from makeup!
Like I already mentioned, your skin needs to breathe so let it do so! We tend to wear more makeup than usual when we go out and a break will be much welcomed. Continue cleansing and moisturizing your skin as you would regularly during this time to help bring it back to health.
3. Use a mask!
There are tons of masks out there that will help your skin look fresh and healthy. Pick one that deals with moisturizing and possibly acne if your makeup has caused some breakouts (it tends to do that.) Your skin needs extra attention post-party so a mask will give you that extra boost. Of course, you don’t have to spend any money and you can make your own mask at home! Pinterest has some great ones here.
4. Steam it up!
If you’ve got a face steamer now is the best time to whip it out and use it. Your face, just like the rest of your body, will be dehydrated and you need to fix that! This is needed especially during the colder months when skin is already more dried out than usual. A steamy shower will work the same if you don’t have a steamer. Just make sure you’re not dowsing your face in hot water because that will just dry it more!
5. Drink water! Drink water! Drink water!
This is the most important thing you can do after a night out! Drinking and dancing will dehydrate you and you need to replenish. Fill up a big bottle and carry it around with you throughout the day so that you don’t forget. It will help flush out the toxins in your body. Not only will your skin thank you but so will the rest of your body! Remember, hangovers occur because you’re dehydrated so it will help end your suffering sooner.
