Even if you tend to play it safe with your nails, it's always fun to mix it up a bit with some glitter, especially around the holidays. If you're looking to get out of your manicure rut but don't know where to start, here are a few ways to wear glitter this season, like this light tinsel effect above.

If you can't decide on a color, pick both of them in the same palette and then apply a glitter polish on your ring fingers for a fun accent. I would love to try this with a few of my gray polishes!

This manicure would be a great option for a holiday party, or any day where you could use a little sparkle. Simply apply the glitter a little bit at a time. Don't use heavy layers — start about halfway down the nail and wait for each layer to dry before applying another one. Then with each layer, just move farther down the nail to complete the gradient effect.

Or you can play it safe and keep the sparkle to a minimum. I love OPI's Juggle Men — the sparkle is really subtle, yet festive. This would be a perfectly safe shade for work.

This manicure makes me think of snow angels! Simply pick one color and highlight your ring fingers with a gradient. It's really easy, just apply your first coat of glitter about halfway down the nail, and for each layer, just shop a little shorter each time. Don't use a lot of polish for each coat, though — it's easier to just use a little.

What's your favorite way to wear glitter during fall/winter?
