Did you know that skin and hair are basically the same? And just like skin, your hair needs to be protected from the sun… because it can get sunburned. It may not get sore and turn an angry red hue, but it will get dry, brittle and even lighten in color. And if you pay for your color, you don’t want it to be bleached out by the sun.
There are different ways to save your sensitive tresses; hats, scarves and one of my favorite modern styling products, a hair balm or leave in conditioner with SPF. It is literally sunscreen for your hair. This is perfect for anytime you are going to be in the sun for long periods of time, but don’t want to wear anything over your hair. Use it according to the directions, but generally you would use it like any other styling cream. Below are my favorite brands of hair sunscreen. In a pinch you can use the same sun block you use on your body, but it can be really heavy and hard to work through your hair. So I would suggest something along the lines of these products below to make sure your hair looks amazing at all times:
Matrix Biolage hydro-foaming styler will protect your hair from uv rays and give it some volume.
L’Oreal Professional Solar Sublime Protection Spray is a great leave-in conditioner spray with a nice light scent.
Phyto Plage Protective Beach Spray protects against the drying effects of the sun, wind, salt and chlorine found on vacations.
Kerastase Soleil Huile Celeste will limit the damage that occurs when your having fun outside, while adding shine.
Aveda Sun Care Hair Veil protects your hair and color for about 16 hours!
Shiseido Refreshing Sun Protection Spray is good for skin and hair!
Monoi Tiki Tahiti is a blend of pure coconut oil, delicately scented with gardenia. Not as effective as the others above, it requires reapplication throughout the day. I just cant resist anything that smells like gardenias.
Have you ever heard of sunblock for your hair? Will you be buying any after reading this post? Have you used any of the products shown or used another brand that provides SPF in their hair products?
