The 1960s winged cat eye is one of my favorite makeup looks of all time and was often sported by two of my vintage style icons, Audrey Hepburn and Anna Karina. I’ve tried to perfect the art of the cat eyeliner (or sometimes refered to as winged eyeliner – and makeup artists if there is a difference feel free to correct me), but sometimes I utterly fail and just end up with a thick black swoop on my eyelid.
But perhaps a few inspirational images and a tutorial will do the trick?

Yes, but not as drastic as these pictures
I’m a blondie, so too much black eyeliner is bad for me.

I have monolids/hooded eyelids. Show me how to do a cat eye and I’ll do it. ;_;

I’ve done this look most of the time. I just think it looks more interesting then the same old eyeliner.

i do this all the time
@eomona@xanga - a good thing about the cat-eye/winged eyeliner is that it’s the exact same application on both types of eyelids. it’s just normal eyeliner and a swoop up at the ends
you probably want to make the lines thicker, is all

I do this all the time. It’s like my everyday look.

Luuuuv winged eyeliner…the thicker the better! It’s taken some practice, but I have it down to a science now. And I use the 16-hour-wear waterproof liquid eyeliner, so it doesn’t smudge or come off at ALL during the day.

it’s the only way I feel comfortable with my eyeliner… it’s not everyday use

I love the cat eye but I can never do it well.

This is my everyday look. It’s not a huge wing, just a small one. I think I look odd without some sort of extension in my eyeliner. It just looks so plain without it.

I need to master this. I love it too much to half ass it every day.

This is my every day look. To anyone having difficulty getting lines straight or even or whatever, have you tried using a brush and a little pot of, like, gel eyeliner? Liquid eyeliner can get messier far easier, but you have a little more control with a brush and it goes on super smooth.
