How Did My Skin Get So Oily?

I've never had to deal with even moderately oily skin; I had never once come home from school to find that my skin looked shiny and slick. Up until the past few weeks, that is. All of a sudden, my skin has become very oily, and I don't mean in only my T-zone, it's my whole face that's shiny with oil. Cheeks, upper lip, everywhere except for my eyelids.

I have a naturally oily face. I am in my upper 20's but this has been going on since I was 14.

I have kind of a ball point nose. A regular nose with my tip like a ball. I am also brown in skin tone. Basically blackheads show up quickly and prominently on my nose. I tried strips but he removal took some on and some off. Also, they would come back withhin a few days.

Three times per week I use the Citrus Clear Face Wash - it really works. It clears my blackheads, especially my nose for exactly a week. Its cheap and last me months too!

I used to have the worst oily forehead! Always my forehead was shiney and I was so embarrassed! I now use the Citrus Clear Acne Wash daily and it is great at keeping an even skin tone and keeping those fine lines and wrinkles at bay. The product is all natural with no harmful chemicals so my daughter who struggles with acne uses it also and it has kept her acne under control for the last five years. No more oily forehead!!

I recently started using Cetaphil and I thought it might have been due to that, but even when I changed my moisturizer it didn't seem to make a difference. I've tried using a mattifying powder along with some other oil-controlling products, but whatever I do, it doesn't seem to change anything! I'm going crazy here, it's not fun coming home and saying "I looked like this all day?!" I'm almost 19-years old now, so one would think I'd be done with crazy hormonal changes, but could that be the reason for my annoying skin?

Do you deal with oily skin? If so, how do you manage it?

One can develop oily skin from over-washing and over-moisturizing their skin. Since you are 18, I think it could be a combination of those things and your hormones since stress can often play a part in what is going on with your skin.

Could be a hormonal thing, you are still young. You can also develop oiliness if your skin is not moisturized enough. The reason being that your skin will overproduce oil to compensate for the dryness and that could be what you are seeing. I was making the mistake of not moisturizing my face after showers (when I'd REALLY need some added moisture) and it was breaking me out because my skin was trying to produce more oil and my pores would get clogged. I wasn't moisturizing because I thought that would make my skin more oily, when in reality it was just the opposite.

I also have really oily skin as well. When I was younger, probably around 12 or 13, I began to experiment with different face washes and moisturizers and would probably switch it up whenever I ran out of one. I didn't know it then but I know now that sometimes switching from product to product could really do harm to your skin. My face has gotten a lot better but my forehead is still very oily. I have a dermatologist and he told me the only thing I can do is to try using a product that centers around oil control. There's not much we can do about oily skin since everyone's skin glands are different. I definitely agree with not over washing your face so much. That can cause your skin to become even more oily.

dry skin caused by climate gets really oily or your products can have the same effect. you should use witch hazel, that stuff cuts through the oil and helps prevent it. Also rice paper works for when your out the house.

I usually get oily skin when i use oil based products or moisturizers.

Try using those oil-absorbing sheets in between washing.

    change in weather

    over-washing

    stress

    dehydration (big one)

also, your skin is likely to go through multiple different phases throughout your lifetime.

like everybody else said, you might be drying out your face too much with products. i've had pretty oily skin all my life, especially in high school. wearing makeup helps. i would definitely invest in those oil-blotting strips, just check the mirror whenever you're in the bathroom. if you don't have any with you, most industrial paper towels (the brown kind) are oddly oil absorbent, just wipe your face lightly with one and that should do the trick for a couple hours.

i have an oily skin too, i do use the VMV spring wash for oily skin. it did lessen the oil and i am not expecting to actually take out the oil from my face because a little oil should be healthy. oil is one of the reasons why wrinkles don't appear too much on skin.

try switching and finding a facial wash that is appropriate for your skin type. if it does not stop, go to your dermatologist, it would hurt to seek professional help.

You're skin is over compensating.. keep looking until you find the right moisturizer

As I've aged my skin has changed. It used to be oily but now I work with combination skin that's oily on the T-Zone sometimes and horribly dry on the cheeks most of the time. Ehh, skin is just annoying sometimes.

I take bathroom breaks in school to wash my face.. and sold in salon stores, there are these dehydrating wax papers (real thin and opaque) sold for a couple bucks.. A few hundred per package.. and they're the exact same material as "oil papers" sold in the make up aisles of some stores- which sell only about 50 papers for 5.. a rip off.

Well, these papers absorb the oil off your skin.. and I just spend a minute or two wiping my face in the restroom before washing up. It's quite effective and cool to see all the oil smudge off. :D

I'm 21 and I have very oily skin. It's very easy for me to break out. I've been washing my face regularly, every morning and night, and drinking a lot of water and getting a lot of sleep. But if I worry just a little bit about school or whatever, I get attacked. I think Cetaphil has been helping me, but so far, it's always a battle to keep my skin acne-free and oil-free.

I had oily skin since I was a young teenager. Now that I'm 68 (!) it is still oily. Even more so than in my younger years. And It is true that I have hardly any wrinkles - but that oil-slick is so embarassing. Even my hair is super-oily, especially my bangs because they touch my forehead. I cannot skip a day washing my hair. And in the summer, I have to wash my hair twice a day if I'm going out later. It's a love/hate relationship. I hate my oily skin but I love the fact that my skin doesn't wrinkle a lot.

I used to have super oily skin up until a like last month. legit. I'm 18 yrs old and I've had acne my whole teen years and now finally it's gone. You should put a clay mask on and leave it on for 25 minutes instead of 10-15. It'll absorb a lot of the oil. Don't forget to mosturize after! This has always worked for me, hope it works for you as well!
