So, I need some advice, and I thought Lovelyish would be a pretty good place to ask this question.
Even though my skin is very yellowy, I tan a lot. I’ve used everything from light ivory to medium beige when it comes to foundations.
But I always have the same problem:
Most foundations leave a very pinkish, red, or even white tint
Most foundations leave a very pinkish, red, or even white tint
that isn’t very pretty at all…even if I barely use any at all…the BROWNEST shade on my face will just make me look pale….
I’ve had a lot of people say, “just get it professionally done,” like I’m going to do that every morning when I put on makeup, and like I have money to buy my MAC cosmetics every time I go up or down a few shades…
I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem, what they did, and how they fixed it!
and just to show the color difference:
this picture was taken little after winter
(yea I know I’m not the most plain of people, but my skin is pretty light)
and finally:
you can see how my foundation no longer matches my tan. BUT, i am wearing a BROWN shade in this picture…….
The more I tan, the more yellow I get, and I can’t seem to find the right product. Any ideas?

I normally buy clinque. it has been the closest to having a yellow tone that I have found.

Make sure you look for the yellow-undertone and not the pink (sometimes you really have to put it side by side to see it) Mineral makeup is a good choice as well as clinique, because of its wide range and decent price point & coverage/colour

i know that shiseido and artistry has great foundations/tinted moisturizers that will go well with yellower skin tones. both brands have make up for a wide range of skin tones.

yeah mineral makeup foundations such as the ones from maybelline are good for yellow skin tones too:) for me i use ochre foundation, i have quite yellowish brown skin too.

I only use a white foundation (in some cases) and nothing for everyday life. BUt I alsao have a white/yelloish skin… not easy it’s true !
Try everyday bare mineral, they send some samples, and their products are good (my mum use them everyday and find the perfect ton !)

I usually get Clinque make up, since the foundation that they make is really good for my skin and it matches my skin colour. I have naturally yellow skin tone, so before I found it quite hard to find the right foundation colour. But then I had someone from Clinque sort out my foundation problems.

I have the opposite problem, I’m very white with a yellowish tint. I use the whitest white shade of clinique super-moisture foundation :/ And dust on a tad of bronzer if i’m at all tan on my face, which, needless to say isn’t very often.

I used to buy four different shades of MAC just to try and get one thatsort of looked normal on me.
Three words: Prescriptives Custom Blend.
It is made for your skin type only and customised to what you want. finish, colour, weight.

I got so annoyed of looking for something that matches my skin tone that I have just given up on foundation itself. Now it’s mostly just mixing blush and bronezer on my face. Which works just fine.

go to mac, it’s actually cheap compared to dior, makeup forever, shiseido, etc.

Revlon’s Colorstay Foundation has colors suited for those with yellow undertones. Also check out the make-up lines for women of color (Covergirl’s Queen Collection, Iman). Yes, getting professionally done may be a bit out of pocket, but actually cheaper in the end. Why? Because you’ll not only get matched correctly and invest in one foundation, instead of running around buying and testing out drugstore brands (which in the end will add up).

shiseido has amazing foundations for yellow undertones.
however i use mac in studio fix nc30
my skin is pretty yellow too.

I’m native american and the only thing I have found to match my skin is mineral make-up by loreal. I have a chinese friend andshe uses it too.

@jennielee@xanga - i agree. i use mac too and i have pretty olive skin and it works great.

Revlon Colorstay has a huge variety of choices so you may be able to get a match with that. Otherwise, I recommend checking out Japanese brands such as Shiseido or Shu Uemura because a lot of their foundations have yellow undertones.

My skin is very yellow, and I love Clinique’s foundation. Works pretty well for me~ I recommend Clinique’s Even Better Makeup SPF15.

NARS, babe, NARS

Nars has great yellow tones as well as MAC. Bobbi Brown has yellow tones in all of her colors, literally, all of them! And I’ve found that if you’re not mostly caucasian, the more money that’ll be spent on getting a good foundation match. *shrugs* That’s just what I’ve noticed.
Also, if you still can’t find a good color, Prescriptives can make a custom color for you. How amazing is that!!

Target has the Sonia Kashuk collection. The perfecting luminous foundation is the only foundation that doesn’t make me look pink. I love it.

@MochaSprinkle@xanga - i know its been so long ao.. but ughh ive been looking for a foundation. im also hispanic and have light yellow skin tone. Are u still using this one or is there a better one?

@yessi0723 - to be honest, I haven’t worn foundation in a long time… my skin is a LOT better and doesn’t need much coverage these days. I just do a bit of concealer nowadays (MAC’s Studio Sculpt) and I’m all good!

unfortunately you may need to mix… I have the same issue no matter what I buy it makes me look tan w yellow neck or ghost white with yellow neck! Black Opal had a perfect shade Khalahri Sand.. only makeup that was super close but no longer sell in stores can only buy online and it’s kinda thick ( stick) meant for maxium coverage..
LInda Siedel makes makeup but it’s expensive ( I had to mix those too). . Bare minerals came close but again.,. tan face yellow neck.. Pur Minerals in Mediium matched but I looked super chalkly..( better for oily skin) my last resort is airbrush makeup Im sure I will have to mix that too.. but I got 30 days to return if does not work.. good luck!!

Shiseido powdery foundation O20, O40 and O60 depending on how dark you are. The ONLY thing I use. They may be discontinuing soon which is a shame. I was a model for many years. MAC wasn’t as good…nothing was. This is seriously the best.
